Patient who needed corrective surgery due to negligence was awarded $250K - Dallas, Texas
A jury awarded $250,000 to a woman who claimed that she had chronic abdominal pain for two years due to a surgical error. In 2008, Florina Ceballos underwent surgery to remove her gallbladder. During the procedure, it was discovered that Dr. Wendell Wenneker had divided the common hepatic duct instead of the cystic duct. The surgery was then converted to an open procedure, the gallbladder was removed and the common duct was repaired. However, Ceballos said she was in constant pain until she was finally diagnosed with a stricture at the repair site and underwent corrective surgery two years later. She claimed that the doctor failed to perform adequate dissection of the gallbladder and surrounding tissue before cutting the wrong duct.
