According to the Dallas Morning News, the owner of a now-closed Denton child care center has been charged with endangering a child in connection with the death of a 4-month-old girl in January.
Debra Turney, 52, is free on $1,000 bail on the felony charge.
She could not be reached for comment.
Turney operated a child care center in her home in the 2200 block of Palomino Court and had been keeping 4-month-old Sophia Worsham for only a few days, according to an affidavit used to obtain her arrest warrant.
The center, 2 Kool 4 School Kids Club Day Care, was licensed to care for 12 babies and children, but the affidavit says Turney was caring for nearly three times that number.
Authorities say she was supposed to be proficient in CPR but performed it incorrectly on Sophia, who stopped breathing at the center Jan. 7.
Also, the girl suffered from acid reflux and was supposed to be held upright for 30 minutes after eating and given Zantac.
